Barely two months after the release of her recent single “Chun-Li”, Nicki Minaj has officially earned a gold sales certification on the jam.
The rapper revealed this via her Instagram handle:
She wrote, “Chun-Li has been certified GOLD. Thank you to everyone for your support. 🙏🏾 got on the mic & made this song up in 5 mins just having fun @ 4 in the morning. Then took about an hour to put words to the melody. Released it 2 days later. We captured it all on video. Thinking about putting that part of the documentary out early so you guys can get a real glimpse into my world. Love you so much.”
The gold certification reflects sales and sales equivalents amounting to 500,000 units, a combination of digital download purchases, legal audio streams, and online music video plays.
“Chun-Li”, co-produced by Minaj with J. Reid is now the rapper’s 15th solo single to achieve RIAA certification. Her 2011 single, “Super Bass” still remains the highest performing of the pack. It was certified octuple-platinum followed by “Starships” which got sextuple-platinum certification.
Nicki Minaj also revealed her fourth studio album “Queen” is on the way and she can’t wait to release it.
Although, originally scheduled for a June 15 release date, the album is now expected to be released on August 10. The album will also mark her first in four years following 2014’s “The Pinkprint”.
“Can’t wait to share this album with all of you who’ve waited so patiently & been so supportive,” Minaj said.
