Yes Oh!! Nicki has finally responded to Remy Ma’s diss, but as some feared, it is a bit underwhelming as regards to the one element that fuels hiphop beefs……BARS!! Nicki dropped ”No Frauds” which features Lil Wayne and Drake, containing shots taken back at Remy in response to ”Shether”, but the release is seeming more like a business move than a clapback. Here’s how.
It is not a diss track, it is a hit song- ”No Frauds” features Lil Wayne and Drake, so it is not just a reply to Remy, it is a regular hot track that people would rush to download and buy upon release. So instead of making a diss track, Nicki made a potential hit, and dissed Remy on it.
The song will sell, Remy’s won’t- Remy Ma’s ”Shether” was made with the beat of legendary diss track by Nas ”Ether” where he dissed Jay Z. If Remy Ma had no right to use the beats, the song will be removed entirely and may not be available for streams or legal downloads. Meanwhile Nicki Minaj released a legally produced track which is on iTunes, so she’s cashing out.
Nicki will be heard more than Remy- Its true that Remy Ma flamed Nicki on her diss track and threw bars that probably made Nicki go buy Tylenol abi Paracetamol (or Alabukun sef) but the song may not be available for public broadcast. Nicki’s ”No Frauds” on the other hand, is going to get radio play, and maybe even be played in the clubs.
Summary: Remy will win the battle because she burned Nicki, but Nicki will win the war because her material will go more viral and make her some money at the same time. It’s Jay Z vs Nas, all over again.
What do you think??
Get ”No Frauds” on iTunes if you haven’t bumped to it yet.
