Collab, collabos, features or whatever name you like to call two musicians coming together, have always been a huge part of any music industry. Collaborations can tease out new ideas an artist hasn’t considered before, get them past writers block and most importantly gain new fans. Some collaborations work, and some don’t. Sometimes as music fans, we like to dream of our favourite artists featuring another artist, sometimes because their style is similar or sometimes ‘just because’. I was dreaming a while ago and here are 5 collaborations I really really won’t mind hearing
Asa and Brymo
You know how there’s a female version of someone, or vice versa. I’d like to think Asa is the female version of Brymo or Brymo is the male version of Asa. These two artists make somewhat similar music. Both of them had creative differences with their record labels and went ahead to do their own thing and succeeded. I don’t think you can mention alternative music in Nigeria and not have these two as number one and number two. Just imagine the level of artistry and the great lyrical content you’re going to get when these two come together….just sit back and imagine.
Wizkid and Davido
Personally, I don’t think I’ve seen two artists dominate the Nigerian music scene the way these guys have over the last few years. 2017 was the year of Davido and Wizkid, both these guys were number one and number two and maybe three and four, no one came close in 2017. There was the heated rivalry, the twitter back and forth and then came the kissing and the making up and performing at each other’s concert. Both guys are currently at the top of their game and a collaboration between these guys will shake the industry. To borrow from the Nigerian Super Eagles supporters club, ‘all we are saying, give us collab’.
Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Niniola
Can you imagine the amount of energy that’ll come out of this collaboration? You go ‘dance dance dance and forget your sorrow’, word to Sir Shina Peters. These girls are going to bring that high intensity, high energy dance track. Now imagine them performing together live. The drums, the vocals, the dance moves and the twerking…did I mention the twerking?
Reminisce and Phyno
Although they have been together on Local Rappers and on a CDQ track before. These two have to do a song together. Reminisce is arguably the one of the best lyricist to rap in Yoruba and if Phyno’s chemistry with Olamide is anything to by, these two are going to burn the studio down with fire music.
Kiss Daniel and Tuface
Can you imagine how G-Worldwide wanted to hinder Kiss Daniel’s greatness. They were stopping him from collaborating with other artists, thank goodness that era is over now. Kiss Daniel still doesn’t have a bad song I’ve heard and a collaboration between him and Tuface will be epic. Both artist have similar styles and their raspy voices? Let me just tell you, hide your girlfriends.
