Nigeria’s D’Tigress recorded their second victory at the 2018 FIBA Women’s World Cup in Tenerife, Spain to qualify for the knockout stages, making Nigeria the first team ever to win two games at the Group stage of the Women’s World Cup.
D’Tigress defeated Argentina 75-70 in their final group B encounter played yesterday.
The Nigerian team, who had earlier defeated Turkey 74-68 on Sunday, started on a brighter note taking the first quarter 19-13 but then went down in the second quarter 16-13.
The third quarter ended all square at 19-19 before triumphing in the fourth quarter to go through.
Evelyn Akhator was the star of the match after she bagged 13 points and ten rebounds. It was Akhator’s second double in consecutive games for the D’Tigress.
Their reward is a match against Greece in the quarter-final qualifiers on Wednesday.
