Out of favour Super Eagles forward, Obafemi Martins, has rejected a move to Australian side, Wellington Phoenix.
The 33-year old is currently recovering from a hamstring and quadricep injury he suffered in April in his club’s match against Kashima Antlers and has seen his place taken by already recovered Demba Ba who is now Shanghai Shenhua’s main striker.
According to his agent Ante Alilovic, Martins wants to continue and focus on his rehabilitation and return to full fitness before making any decision about his future.
He said: “I’ve spoken with Obafemi and he just wants to continue his rehabilitation from his injury (a badly torn hamstring and quadricep injury suffered back in April) in the UK for the time being,”
“He also told me that he wants to hold off until January (to make a decision on his future).”
“I don’t think the A-League is a serious option in terms of what he can earn elsewhere. He won’t be coming to Australia and I think he sees his future remaining in China.”
Martins’ Chinese Super League contract, expires at the end of this season.
