Obafemi Martins has been dealt a big blow in his bid to make it to the World Cup this summer as after he suffered a long-term injury in his side’s Asian Champions League tie against Kashima Antlers.
The 33-year old was substituted in the 22nd minute and was later diagnosed with a partial rupture of the quadriceps tendon of the right knee.
As revealed by Ma Yue, the press officer of Shenhua, Martins will undergo surgery as soon as possible and will need between 6-7 months to recover after the surgery.
Martins last World Cup appearance was at the 2010 edition in South Africa.
