Odion Ighalo’s contract at Manchester United is set to expire on May 30th, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been hoping to extend the contract by at least 3 months, to enable him, help United finish the league on a strong note.

The suspension of football due to Covid-19, and the consequent delay to ending the season, has seen all Premier League teams agree that clubs can temporarily extend contracts of players whose deals are coming to an end this summer.

However, Shanghai Shenhua, Ighalo’s parents club, are not willing to allow the Nigerian international extend his stay in United. Chinese authorities, are hoping the Chinese Super League would begin in late June or early July, hence the stance of Shanghai Shenhua on Ighalo extending his contract at United.

Ighalo has previously expressed his desire to remain at Old Trafford, stating his love for his boyhood club and has relished every minute of his unexpected move to United.

With four goals and one assist in three starts, should Odion Ighalo extend his contract, United would increase their chances of finishing top 4.

However, except United can make a late breakthrough in negotiations, Ighalo will return to Shanghai when his loan ends next Monday.
