Later today there will be a highly anticipated music festival- the One Africa Music Festival. The event has been dubbed the biggest afrobeat stage performance by African artistes to be held in America, ever and is set to hold at The Barclays Centre in New York. The hall has played host to many of the biggest names in western entertainment including Jay Z, Rihanna, Beyonce, Nicki Minaj and Adam Levine.
Produced by Upfront and Personal (one of the most influential names in the Nigerian Entertainment Industry) the line up for the show includes; Wale, AyoJay, Jidenna, Wizkid, Davido, Flavour, Diamond Platnumz, Tiwa Savage, Banky W , Stonebwoy, Praiz, Seun Kuti, Iyanya, Timaya and Machel Montano. Plus Banky W will be hosting the whole thing.
A strong point of appeal for the Nigerian audience is the fusion between these artistes from different parts of Africa as well as the thrill of seeing African American artistes performing as contemporaries on the same stage.
Over the week, social media has been abuzz with the hype and anticipation surrounding the event. Popular Nigerian Lifestyle blog Bella Naija nominated model Makida Moka as its representative to cover the event, and through her social media feed and Instagram takeover of the Bella Naija page, we have seen a host of activities leading up to the event which happens today – while Osas Ighodaro also gave away free tickets on her social media handle as well. And according to social media gist, Jay Z’s music streaming service Tidal will stream the event live.
The event will also feature an afterparty; to which we can only imagine the turn-up level. But to give a serious undertone to the whole event, Cobhams Asuquo at a press conference held in June, disclosed that the secondary motive for the concert will be to further prod the government to remember the kidnapped Chibok girls.
