The next in line for the position of Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Walter Onoghen, the most senior of the Justices of the Supreme court was yesterday sworn in by President Muhammadu Buhari as the acting CJN.
Onnoghen is the first southerner since 30 years to occupy the seat. He occupies the seat after former CJN Mahmud Mohammed who attained the mandatory 70 years retirement age.
The president, Muhammadu Buhari congratulated the exiting CJN for a job well-done and urged the acting CJN to fly the flag of justice so high,as his appointment has come at the time when the country is going through trying times. He also urged Onnoghen to join hands with his administration to fight insecurity and corruption in the country.
Onnoghen shall act as CJN pending the appointment of a Sustantive CJN by the president and the Senate.
He was sworn in yesterday at Abuja.
