Boxer Patrick Day has finally given up the ghost after four days in coma.
The 27-year old suffered a brain injury during his fight with Charles Conwell and was immediately rushed to hospital where he was put into a coma.
Day was knocked out in the 10th round of his super welterweight bout in Chicago.
His promoter Lou DiBella confirmed the news yesterday stating that the American was “surrounded by his family, close friends and members of his boxing team” before he died.
His opponent on the day and fellow American Conwell, was emotional in his letter to Day following the fight.
“I never meant this to happen to you, all I wanted to do was win. If I could take it all back, I would. No-one deserves this to happen to them.”
Before his bout against Conwell, Day won 17 of his 22 fights, with four defeats and one draw.
