Pogba’s recent comments while on international duty with France has put him back in firing sight of Manchester United’s fan base, and worst of all, the UK media.
“I had never known such a difficult period in my career,” Pogba said to RTL, after the France’s 1-0 victory over Portugal. “The France team is a breath of fresh air, the group is exceptional, it’s magic.”
Pogba’s comments were completely taken out of proportion, to the extent of the interviewer being forced to come out and defend Pogba, saying he had not, as some suggested, criticized United, but was simply expressing disappointment at his own performances.
When Paul Pogba moved back to Manchester United from Juventus four years ago for a world-record fee, there were expectations that he would take the club back to the top, but things haven’t been as easy as that for the club, and there’s a particular group that have somehow pinned this on just Pogba, especially since the arrival and performances of Bruno Fernandes.
What makes matters worse, are his performances for France. While playing for France, he appears to be a completely different player, with some of the performances being better than his Juventus days.
Playing for France, he doesn’t carry the burden alone, he has players like Griezmann, Mbappe, Kante and Varane, all world class players and Pogba at his best Isn’t a Rolls Royce player like people think, but rather a player that does the simple things like through balls, controlling a game and more, effectively.
With Bruno Fernandes performing brilliantly and Donny van de Beek under-utilised, it’s either United fan base and the British media give him a break or Pogba and United go their separate ways, either in January or the end of the season. Starting off elsewhere, maybe in France, Spain or Italy, would allow him to show the side of Pogba which the whole world knows he has in him and put his quite unfortunate United career behind him.
