Amidst the rising VAR controversy, Premier League managers will meet with referees’ boss Mike Riley on Thursday to discuss the video assistant referee system.

Riley is the general manager of the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL), the body responsible for the country’s leading referees.

The agenda of this meeting will be to discuss whether  match officials should be allowed to consult pitch-side monitors.

In all other competitions whereby VAR is being used, the refree is allowed to consult pitch-side monitors to assist the decision making process.

In Saturday’s premier league tie between leaders Liverpool and newly promoted Villa there was VAR controversy, Roberto Firmino was ruled offside by the slightest of margins, his “arm pit” was offside according to VAR, many still disagree with the call.

There was more VAR controversy Sunday in the Tottenham V Everton game which was overshadowed by the horrific injury to Everton midfielder, Andre Gomes. Dele Alli scored the opening goal at Goodison Park, the Tottenham midfielder appeared to have handled in the Everton area, but after a three-minute delay, a penalty was not given by VAR.

Improvements can definitely be made to the current system and lets hope this arranged meeting can aid that.
