Drake Curse! Is it real? Is it fake? Are you superstitious? Do you believe in curses? Is Drake really cursed?
Well…sorta…kinda…And the recipient of his latest curse is none other than Anthony Joshua. We’ll come back to that later. So, who has fallen victim to the Drake Curse?
The Drake Curse started out in basketball, with Drake becoming a part of the Kentucky College Basketball program and guess what, they haven’t won a title since then. They even lost a decider against Wisconsin in which Drake bet over $5000 on it.In 2015, Serena Williams entered the U.S. Open as the No.1 ranked opponent with Australian Open, French Open and Wimbledon wins under her belt. But at the US Open, Williams lost in the semifinals where she faced off against unranked Italian Roberta Vinci. Guess who was in attendance cheering Serena? Drake.Up next, Conor McGregor. Drake was side-by-side with Conor McGregor at his weigh-in for his fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 236. Drizzy was even photographed holding up an Irish flag as McGregor posed in a fighting stance. Guess who lost and got the beating of his life on the day of the fight? Conor McGregor.
The football community was not spared either, Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho posed with Drake prior to losing to Bayern Munich. Arsenal’s Aubameyang also posed with him and Arsenal lost to Bayern Munich. Drake even ruined Manchester City’s Champions League hopes as Sergio Aguero missed a penalty against Tottenham.
Paris Saint-Germain player Layvin Kurzawa also posed with Drake and then they went on to suffer a heavy 5-1 defeat to Lille. AS Roma had to jokingly ban players from taking pictures with Drake to avoid the Drake Curse.
We can go on and on…but let’s fast-forward to the latest victim Anthony Joshua. Joshua posted a picture with the rapper on March 21, with the caption “Bout to break the curse #June1st.” He was so confident that he thought he could be the one to break the Drake curse. But we all know how that turned out.
Joshua actually lost his first professional defeat to a little known Mexican called Andy Ruiz Jr and has been the butt of jokes and memes all over the internet ever since.
