Prosecutors have opened an investigation into the death of Fiorentina captain and Italy international Davide Astori who died on Sunday at the age of 31 in his sleep.
Udine chief prosecutor Antonio De Nicolo opened a “culpable homicide” inquiry which will be done before an autopsy in Italy.
Astori’s autospy will take place on Tuesday and his body will be taken to Florence on Wednesday before his funeral on Thursday.
Astori joined Fiorentina in 2016 from Cagliari, making 58 appearances for them.
He is survived by a long-term partner and two-year-old daughter.
Meanwhile, Astori’s No 13 shirt has been retired by Fiorentina as a mark of honor.
