A judge has denied R. Kelly’s request to be released from jail on bail. According to TMZ, prosecutors say Kelly is definitely a flight risk if he gets out of jail while his criminal case is pending.U.S. District Judge Ann Donnelly denied a defense motion asking to release him on bond and allow home detention. She set a May 18 trial date.
R. Kelly, didn’t attend the hearing in federal court in Brooklyn. He remains behind bars in Chicago awaiting a trial on related charges that’s scheduled for April 27.
The Brooklyn federal prosecutors recommendations come as Kelly awaits trial on charges including sexual exploitation of a child, racketeering, and kidnapping. The judge set Kelly’s trial date for May 18, 2020. The singer’s history of alleged sexual abuse was detailed earlier this year in the Lifetime docuseries Surviving R. Kelly.
