Lewis Hamilton failed to clinch a fifth world title as he finished third behind Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen in a thrilling US Grand Prix.

The Mercedes delayed a second pit stop even though tight rival Sebastian Vettel looked to have handed Hamilton the title early on when he spun battling with Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo.

Hamilton currently leads with 70-point ahead of Vettel who eventually finished fourth and will have to wait until the race in Mexico next weekend to have another chance of clinching the title.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen finished second.
