Police in Las Vegas have issued a warrant for a DNA sample from Cristiano Ronaldo as part of the ongoing investigation into the rape allegations made against the forward.
According to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the warrant was sent to the court system in Italy.
German magazine Der Spiegel, who first published the story about the allegation in October, reported that Mayorga had filed a report with Las Vegas police shortly after the alleged incident. An allegation which the Juventus forward has denied.
According to Ronaldo’s lawyer Peter Christiansen who viewed the warrant as a standard request, he said: “Mr Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation,”
The Portuguese international has dismissed the allegation as “fake news” and earlier in October issued a statement through his Twitter account in which he “firmly” denied the accusation.
The 33-year old is currently preparing for his team’s Cup tie with Bologna this weekend.
