Fans of Ray Allen, who had expected a comeback from the 41-year old, will be left disappointed as the he announced his retirement on Tuesday.
There had been several rumors that Allen will return to the NBA, to continue his 18-year career, having been away from the game since 2014.
The NBA star, popular for his impressive three pointers, made the announcement while penning an open letter to his younger self, published on the player’s Tribune Tuesday.
“I write this to you today as a 41-year-old man who is retiring from the game. I write to you as a man who is completely at peace with himself.”
“Now, the most important question in your life isn’t, ‘Who am I supposed to be’ or even, ‘What do I have to do to win another championship? It’s, ‘Daddy, guess what happened in math class today?’ That’s the reward that awaits you at the end of your journey.”
In the course of his career, Allen played for 4 teams, earned himself 10 All-Star team selections, won 3 championships and scored an impressive 2973 3-pointers.
