HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you … HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU … HAPPY BIRTHDAY, Mr. President …
That was one of the most iconic moments in history when Ms. Monroe enchanted her lover, John F. Kennedy (35th President of the United States of America) in front of a well rounded guest list.
While she crooned the famous tune to the birthday boy, she dazzled in a strappy maxi form fitting encrusted gown that made her shine like the true starlet she was.
And the Winner is….
Julien’s Auctions, the same group that handled Kurt Cobain’s cigarette burned sweatshirt, took control over the dress and auctioned it off, starting the battle to win this gem.
The Dress is now located at Ripley’s Believe It or Not! Hollywood.
*whispers* Ripley’s acquired the dress from Julien’s Auctions for $4.8 million thereby setting a new Guinness World Record for the most expensive dress sold at an auction.
A Closer Look at the dress
Marilyn’s dress was color-matched to her exact skin tone, and the bejeweled using 2,500 rhinestones. However, the gown was so tight and sheer that she had to be sewn into it “au natural.”
Yes, you read that right.
(After auction fees, the dress cost over $5 million – making it the most expensive dress in the world.)
Quality over Quantity!
The level of detail and time that went into making this dress goes to show that quality wins over quantity any day. I mean, here we are 70 years later, and it still looks phenomenal!
