The hiphop community lost a soldier this week, and the African scene lost one of its pioneers. HHP aka HipHop Pantsula, aka Jabba passed away this week, and as our own tribute, we would like to share 5 of his most memorable features, for our friends who are not very familiar.

5. Past Time- HHP FT Cassper Nyovest, KG & Omar

Sometime in 2012 when Cassper’s long and solitary braid was his identifying mark, came a feature with KG and Omar, as assembled by the late HHP. Past Time was a feel good bop were all acts involved laced fresh verses, and rode the hook like a surf board.

4. Endurance- Reason FT HHP, Nova

HHp was not only dope on verses, he could also come nice on a hook. So when he teamed up with a refined lyricist Reason, he took on hook duties and nailed it with no effort.

3. Bread Winners- Proverb FT HHP

Proverb might as well be regarded as the Jay Z of South Africa. As one of the dopest lyricst from SA, Proverb has been on the scene for decades and dedicating his life to the culture. This formidable alliance with HHP was a shout out to the fathers, as they hold on to their tasks and responsibilities as breadwinners.

2. Superhuman- M.I FT HHP

Nigeria’s rap supremo M.I brought HHP as a guest speaker on his socio-concious ”Superhuman” track, off his Illegal Music 2 project. Both rappers touch lightly on the deteriorating state of Africa, its governments and economies, while splashing some braggadocio sauce on the verse of course.

1. Jigah- M.anifest FT HHP

Champions need to stick together. For the number 1 feature on this list, we take the power punch packing alliance with Ghana’s rhyme philosopher M.anifest aka M. Dot. on the track ”JIGAH”. Bars were flying every which way on this piece, as the soft but vibrant instrumental comes thumping in, while HHP and M.dot take on their lyrical campaign. It was one of those moments that HHP fused perfectly with an artist with an entirely different style and vibe as his, but still stood tall and firm. Rest in Piece Jabba!!
