Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr has debunked rumours of an ongoing rift between himself and Ogenyi Onazi.
Onazi withdrew from the squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Libya in October citing injury, only for the midfielder to feature for his Turkish club in their next league match at the end of the international break.
Many media outlets perceived it to be the reason for his non-inclusion in the Super Eagles squad against South Africa despite his being fit.
Rohr denied such allegations in a radio interview yesterday. He said: ”After compiling my list of players for any particular match, l submit to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation and the Technical Committee.”
“I have to submit for them to approve. However there has never been any time where they have asked me to drop a player. That l would not accept. It is not true that l have issues with Ogenyi.”
Earlier this month, Onazi had made a slight dig at the Franco-German coach in the wake of his omission from the squad, sighting that some people did not want him in the team.
Super Eagles have already qualified for next year’s African Cup of Nations to be hosted in Cameroon.
