Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed the 24th player to be part of Nigeria’s squad at the 2018 World Cup, but as an unregistered twenty-fourth player.
Rohr revealed that he had included goalkeeper Carl Ikeme as an extra player which is in line with the FIFA rules. In USA 1994, Clemens Westerhof included Tijani Babangida while in Korea/Japan 1994, Festus Onigbinde included Peter Odemwingie as an extra player.
Ikeme, who is recovering from illness, played in the second round of the African World Cup qualifiers against Swaziland and started Nigeria’s World Cup campaign when Nigeria beat Zambia away in their first game of the third round.
Meanwhile, Moses Simon has been the sidelined for four weeks which will see him miss the World Cup after he failed to recover from an injury.
The Super Eagles players and officials are already in Port Harcourt ahead of their pre-world cup friendly against the Democratic Republic of Congo.
