Luis Suarez was the hero for Uruguay in his 100th appearance for the nation in their 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia in the second group A game at the Rostov arena.
The Saudis sought to redeem their image after the 5-0 bashing suffered at the hands of host nation Russia in their first game but did little to get a win against Uruguay.
Mohammed Al Owais was culpable as he failed to deal with a corner in the 23rd minute which Suarez coolly volleyed into the unguarded net.
Uruguay and Russia both have six points but Russia tops with higher goal difference which meant both Egypt and Saudi Arabia were eliminated from the competition.
