The man Cristiano Ronaldo was once again on point as he handed Portugal a 1-0 win over a more dominant Morocco in yesterday’s group B encounter at the Luzhniki Stadium.
The Real Madrid star man headed home the opener and subsequently the winner in the fourth minute from a Joao Moutinho cross to make the all-time European scorer and second highest international scorer with 85 goals.
Morocco pressed on for the major part of the game with Benatia, Belhanda and Ziyech all having clear chances but were thwarted by Portuguese keeper Rui Patricio.
In the second group game, Spain survived a late scare from IR Iran to win 1-0 courtesy of a 54th minute goal from Diego Costa.
Iran got an equalizer in the last 10 minutes of the game but saw the goal cancelled after a handball was noticed enroute the goal.
Both Spain and Portugal top the group with four points each while Iran are third with three points.
Ronaldo is the current top scorer with four goals.
