Switzerland had to settle to for a 2-2 draw with Costa Rica to scale through to the next round no thanks to the Swiss keeper Sommer’s unintentional own goal.
Blerim Dzemaili had opened the scoring in the 31st minute for Switzerland, Kendall Watson equalized sixteen minutes into the second half for Costa Rica before Drmic restored the lead for Switzerland.
Things then turned for the worse as a penalty miss by Costa Rica in the 93rd minute unfortunately got turned in by the Swiss keeper having hit the crossbar and then bounced off his back into the net.
Meanwhile, Brazil skipped past Serbia 2-0 in a result that was overshadowed by Marcelo’s injury.
Paulinho scored the opener off Coutinho’s perfect pass in the 36th minute while Thiago Silva made it to 2-0 in the 68th minute to make sure they top the group and keep a date with Mexico in the next round.
