Russia were made to pay for their lackluster performance after they were thrashed 3-0 by Suarez-led Uruguay.

Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the 10th minute before a Denis Cheryshev own goal gifted the South Americans a 2-0 lead before halftime which preceded a red card for Russian midfielder Igor Smolnikov.

The game dragged on till the 90th minute when Edinson Cavani slotted home to become only the second Uruguayan player to score in three consecutive World Cups.

In the simultaneous game played, Egypt couldn’t salvage their pride after they fell 2-1 to Saudi Arabia.

Mohammed Salah opened the scoring in the 22nd minute before Salman AL-Faraj equalized from the penalty spot in the 45th minute after they had missed a penalty in the 41st minute.

All came crashing for Egypt when the defence allowed Salem Al-Dawsari to slot past veteran keeper El-Hadary to salvage the three points and go home with pride.

In theory, it was just a friendly game between two losers.
