Sadio Mane has been named as Africa’s best player for 2019 for the first time in his career.
The Senegal international beat off intense competition from last year and the year before winner Mohamed Salah, his Liverpool colleague and Riyad Mahrez who went on to win Algeria the African Cup of Nation to win the CAF African Player of the Year accolade for the very first time.
Mane was the big winner at Tuesday evening’s award ceremony in Egypt which honored the continent’s best players and teams for the past year.
The Liverpool forward finished third behind Mahrez and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in 2016 before coming second to Reds teammate Salah in both 2017 and 2018.
2019 was a big year for Sadio, playing 63 games, scoring 35 goals, chipping in with 11 assists and winning 3 trophies for his efforts, The Champions League, Super Cup, and The Club World Cup.
Mane was also named as the 4th best footballer in the world after Lionel Messi, Liverpool team mate Virgil Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo, respectively
