Talk about major comeback!  Tyra Banks has made a huge comeback into the modeling scene; she came out of modeling retirement specifically for her 2019 Sports Illustrated swimwear photo shoot. This marks the third Sports Illustrated Swimsuit cover for Tyra, who made history as the first black woman to appear on the cover alone in 1997

“My first one was 23 years ago, how crazy is that,” an excited Banks said on Good Morning America where she revealed her new cover. “I’m like damn — I’m 45 dog!”  Does she even look anything close to 45? WOW!

“Since Tyra’s first cover in 1996, she’s transformed herself into nothing less than a mogul, a cultural force and a supernova of inspiration and empowerment,” says Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Editor MJ Day. “She’s kind of the SwimsuitIssue ethos come to life, everything we know this franchise can be.”

Tyra Banks is one of three stars getting their own cover. She’s joined by Alex Morgan, USA National Women’s Soccer team star and Olympic gold medalist, and Camille Kostek, 2018 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search winner and 2019 Sports Illustrated  Swimsuit Rookie.

Though she looks beyond incredible on the cover of Sports Illustrated, Tyra Banks admitted that she didn’t reach her goal weight before the shoot. “I thought I was gonna lose 30 pounds, and come back and look like that cover from 1997,” Banks tells Yahoo Lifestyle on the BUILD series stage,

“And I got to the fitting and went to MJ (Day)”s  hotel room and I had like a big sundress on, and I’m like, ‘MJ, I was gonna lose a bunch of weight and I didn’t.’”

Day, simply told the model that they would be showcasing and even honoring  her body as is. She’s like, “I am so excited that you didn’t. I think it’s so much better, I think it’s a better message, it’s who you are now,’”

Banks recalled of her conversation with Day, the editor of the magazine. “She was like, ‘No, let’s celebrate that.’ And I was like, ‘Damn, okay.’ So it made me feel good.”

And if you look at her photos from her Sports Illustrated swimsuit photo shoot,  i’m pretty sure we can all see that she looks good too. Are we right or are we right??
