Securing a corporate job these days is not easy, working in one is even more of a challenge. People often join a new organization and fall under the assumption that it’s most likely the same culture or environment than the last and often it’s not. You get to familiarise yourself with the environment and after a while tend to become selective with whom you talk to, seek advice from and the likes. Rather, than stop interacting with people, all you need to do is to follow some basic office etiquettes:
Don’t go with the flow
Since it is a corporate workplace, people can be selfish, and they may try to influence you in their favour. It’s always better to follow the rule of not for or against a particular group or individual.
Listen to others but do your own thing
In an office, no one is your friend. You just simply listen to what others say but do your own thing. They might try to take you in their confidence, for their profits or other unknown intent.
Be a good observer
Whether a new or old employee, always take the time to observe the
people around you and the way they work. Do not judge people at first instance.
Avoid rumours and gossips
Most of us believe that it is okay to gossip about your colleagues at workplace. However, remember that there is no place for gossip peddlers in a professional work environment. So, it’s better you stay away from being rumours or gossips mongers.
Hold on to your integrity
You should always know where to draw the line between professionalism and informal behaviour. Learn to respect subordinates, peers and managers alike. Your good behaviour can take you a long way.
Earning people’s trust is the most important thing while working at a corporate workplace. Never do anything or take action that will make you lose trust.
