How do you like your Shisha? Which of these popular flavours would you love – apple, strawberry, mint or cola? Shisha has been touted as the perfect alternative to cigarette even though it contains tobacco. The reason for this massive migration to shisha is because it is sometimes mixed with fruit or molasses sugar. But here’s a downer – despite the fact that it is flavoured tobacco, it is dangerous to your health. At the risk of sounding like an alarmist, here are some of the things you should know before smoking shisha:
Same effects with cigarette
Smoking Shisha and inhaling cigarette have similar effects. The widely held belief is that shisha is harmless. The truth is shisha is as dangerous as cigarette smoking.
Delivers more smoke into the body
Smokers of water pipes may be exposed to even more smoke than cigarette smokers because waterpipe smoking sessions last from 20-80 minutes during which a smoker may inhale as much smoke as that from 100 or more cigarettes.
It has flavoured tobacco
The most common form of tobacco smoked in a water pipe is called Maassel, which is sweetened and flavoured with such flavours as apple, mint and cappuccino.
Popular in some counties
Shisha water pipes are most common in areas of China, India and Pakistan. In many countries, you find clubs that now offer shisha services.
Has adverse effects during pregnancy
Pregnant women smoking a Shisha are putting their unborn child at great risk. It causes low birth weight and other birthing problems.
It contains more carbon monoxide
Shisha contains carbon monoxide (CO) in amounts equal to or greater than that from cigarettes. CO replaces oxygen on red blood cells, making it harder for the body to
deliver oxygen to vital organs which can later lead to organ failure.
