Do you really understand what the ingredients label on your beauty products is going on about? There’s so many big words and fancy terms. And then there’s the commonly seen AHA and BHA- what on earth is the difference!? Just relax and let the Accelerate Skincare Alphabet break it down for you.
WHAT ARE THEY & WHY DO YOU NEED THEM
AHAs are alpha hydroxy acids – these are compounds that can be wither naturally occurring or created in the lab. Many are gotten from organic sugars, with glycol acid (from sugar cane) and lactic acid from milk. AHAs offer chemical exfoliation as an alternative to manual exfoliation, working primarily by dissolving the bonds between skin cells to allow the removal of dead cells and subsequently smother skin surface.
WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF USING THEM ?
AHAs certainly offer a smother skin texture and negates the use of harsh scrubs in those that prefer to avoid manual exfoliation. AHAs also increase photo sensitivity, so make sure to wear sunscreen daily.
WHICH PRODUCTS CAN I FIND THEM IN?
Peels aside, AHAs can appear in face washes , masks , serums and creams.
