It’s not all over for the slums. Honourable justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo of the Lagos State High Court, Igbosere has granted an interim injunction restraining the Lagos State government from going ahead with its plans to demolish the homes of 300, 000 people living in various waterfront communities in Lagos State. The court granted this order on Monday, pending the determination of the substantive suit.

In the affidavit sworn to by one Agemo Abacha, a resident of the Ago Egun waterfront community, he stated that, since the Lagos State community gave its ultimatum as per evacuation by persons living on the waterfronts, their community has not been a peaceful one because, people are living in fear of eviction.

He also stated in his affidavit that residents of the community are ready and willing to work with law enforcement agencies to help curb the rate of crime in the area but to demolish their slums is to render them homeless, without a source of livelihood and to truncate the education of their children.
