Ever heard of the phrase that “What is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander?” No? Well who cares cos the fact is, it’s true! Those creamy smoothies you whip out can be beneficial for not only your stomach but for your face as well. Some smoothie recipes can serve as a good in between meal whose leftovers can be a facial mask as well.
A cold smoothie that doubles as a facial mask doesn’t only refresh you inside and out but it also useful after spending a hot day outside or a gym session. Here are three smoothies/facial masks that you can totally lick off your face:
• 1 cup Greek yogurt (you can find this in big chain stores like Shoprite and Goodies)
• 1/2 cup fresh strawberries
• 1/2 cup crushed pineapple
• 1 tbsp. coconut oil
• 1 tsp spirulina powder (you can totally skip this)
• Honey to taste
The Greek yogurt in the smoothie helps even out your skin and the fruit enhances collagen production. Coconut oil helps with smooth skin and locks in moisture while spirulina is a good source of antioxidants. Spread the mask generously on your face, allow it to sit for five minutes then rinse off.
• 1/4 papaya, peeled and seeded
• 1 banana
• 4 tbsps. honey
The enzymes in papaya helps in getting rid of dead skin cells while banana acts as a moisturizer that makes your face feel supple. Honey on the other hand has anti-bacterial properties that makes for a good ingredient for fighting off break out without necessarily drying out your skin. Mask for about fifteen minutes and rinse off.
• 3/4 cup plain yogurt
• 1/2 cup frozen blueberries (you can replace with any edible berry you can find)
• 1/2 banana
• 1/2 avocado
This creamy smoothie will not only hydrate your facial skin but the antioxidants in the berry will make your face glow. Apply the smoothie on your face and rise off after fifteen to twenty minutes and towel dry.
