ELLE’s March issue will hit the stands on the 21st of February, but we already have a sneak peek of what to expect. Solange Knowles graces the cover of this magazine as well as sheds light on what went into the making of her ground-breaking album Seat at the Table. The cover was photographed by Terry Tsiolis and styled by Samira Nasr.
Other aspects of her life were not out of reach as she spoke about growing up in a home that was almost always about the Destiny’s Child. She still wrote at that time and to her,
“Writing felt like this insular thing that I could go back in my room and express all that I would observe, all the emotions that would arise. It felt like mine, my little thing.”
Also, she shared her experience raising her son in Moscow, Idaho while still in her teens. She said:
“It was one of the most bittersweet moments of my life because I was so in love with Julez, and having spent a lot of time on the road, I yearned to be in one place, to have the opportunity to really ground myself with him. But it was isolating and lonely, and so cold and dark. And it was just Julez and me most of the time. It was hard to imagine being able to progress in my career in any way.”
Finally, on her album, she wanted to create a juxtaposition of the current happening, politically in the US. she wanted to pass her message stylishly in a way she can be heard without putting forward anger and rage.
Solange looks amazing on this cover and quite graceful. It is nice to know that there are other Knowles making a mark out there.
