Southampton has appointed former Stoke City manager Mark Hughes as its manager. Hughes replaces Mauricio Pellegrino who was sacked on Monday after their poor performances so far this season.

The 54-year old who had coached Stoke City for over four years, was sacked in January and has not been with a club since then.

Hughes has also managed Blackburn Rovers, Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Manchester City. He was once an England national team manager for five years.

Hughes who has played for the Potters for two years, will face his first test in Sunday’s FA Cup tie against Wigan.
