We will qualify for the World Cup – Alex Iwobi
The Arsenal youngster, Alex Iwobi says he is confident the Super Eagles will qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Nigeria has been placed in a very tough group and will face Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia and hope to make it to the top of the group in order to qualify. Iwobi though, believes with the right set of players, Nigeria will secure a World Cup ticket.
“The Nations Cup is the biggest sporting tournament in Africa, so we were gutted but as a team we have to look forward and focus on the World Cup and our qualification matches,” Iwobi told FIFA.com. “It is a tough group for sure, but I don’t think there are any easy groups – it’s international level competition. I’m confident we can prevail, we definitely have the players to. If we prepare well, focus and play to the best of our ability I’m sure we will qualify.
“All the teams [in the group] are good teams that have been former AFCON winners, and have players playing at the highest level, so we know we’ll be up against well-prepared teams.”
Nigeria hopes to seal the World Cup qualification after losing out on the African Nations Cup qualifier a couple of months ago.
Nigeria U23 get camp allowance
Nigeria has fulfilled their promise to the dream team by paying the camp allowances for each player and officials within the camp.
A sum of $47,850 (N16.7m) was shared among the team, with each player getting $1650 (N557,000).
They were also given daily allowance for upkeep within the camp, and each player will receive $150 daily.
Sports minister Dalung, revealed that the players received their entitlements in a timely manner because they want everyone focused on the games and winning.
“All your camp allowances have been budgeted for. There will be no story-telling during this games. You will get all your allowances and entitlements as we don’t want any distractions,” Dalung said.
“We want you to remain focused. You have established that you’re great men and determined to conquer, despite all odds. There can’t be any other sacrifice more than this,” he concluded.
Nigeria will face Colombia by (6pm) today and hopefully, they seal maximum points in Group B.
