Iwobi seals win for Eagles against Plateau United
Nigeria’s Super Eagles defeated NPFL based outfit, Plateau United 3-0 in a test game on Wednesday.
Rising star Alex Iwobi was outstanding, he scored a brace after Anderson Esiti’s opener, to seal Gernot Rohr’s second victory as coach of the Super Eagles.
Jos based Plateau United were no match for the Super Eagles, as they failed to convert any of their chances to goals.
Ahmed Musa, who was expected to dazzle against his former side, failed to do that as he fired blanks until he was pulled out of the game in the second half.
The win serves as a morale boost for the Super Eagles, who are set to face Zambia this weekend in a crucial World Cup qualifier tie.
Gernot Rohr says Super Eagles are determined to win against Zambia
The 2018 World Cup qualifier is only a few days away and Super Eagles handler Gernot Rohr is talking a big game, as he reveals his determination to claim all three points in Ndola on Saturday.
Despite the absence of many players as a result of injury, the experienced coach says the team boasts of top quality players from the local league and he hopes to utilize their abilities in the coming match.
“I’m happy with the preparation because most of the players have arrived and I’m happy we have good training condition,” Rohr told media. “I’m happy to work with a new and young team because we have a lot of younger players here with some local players here too. We are going to Zambia to win the game, though it would be very difficult. All the four teams in the group can hope to be the best. Of course we have a look on the Zambia team because they have good players; we focus on our team and have good preparation and hope everybody work well.
“We know that in Zambia, we are going to have a difficult pitch like we saw against Kenya. Unfortunately, we are missing some players due to injury, but I’m happy we have some local players and I think it is a good thing to show everybody that local players too could have their chance to come into the team. Well, we are missing Balogun, Ighalo and others, but we also still have others players in the team and they also have a chance to show their potentials and qualities,” he concluded.
There is Willian and Then There is Puncheon
When we talk about assists and creativity in the English Premier league or any league for that matter, we must first talk about the player that created the most chances for his fellow teammates.
Of course, when having such discussions, players like Mesit Ozil and Kevin DeBruyne come to mind but neither one of them has created the most chances in the English Premier League so far.
Crystal Palace’ Jason Puncheon has turned out to be an emerging star and is definitely one to look out for, having created 24 chances, the most so far in the English premier league. He is followed closely by Willian, who has created 23 chances. Dustin Tadic is third while surprisingly, De Bruyne ends up in fourth place.
Though he has created impressive number of chances for his teammates, only two of those chances were effectively converted into goals. In this regard, DeBruyne takes the lead with 4 goals coming from 20 chances created.
Ozil though, has been quite disappointing, compared to his form from last season. He has only managed to create 13 chances so far and recorded zero assists.
Puncheon is definitely one to look out for this season and we will be watching him closely and also share updates about his performance.
