Yasmine Agbantou is a Paris-born Beninese (Republic of Benin) designer, with brand name Mimine Ag.
The name was coined from the nickname her mother gave her from the day she was born and the acronym Ag are the two first letters of her surname (i.e. Agbantou).
Mimine has returned with her Resort Capsule tagged ‘Stepping on the throne’.
“The concept behind this collection revolves around the rise of a female Pope that would not have to hide behind shapeless and manly outfits to disguise her true self”, says Yasmine Agbantou the brand’s creative director.
Miminie Ag feels it’s time for women to have the same right as man to be elected as pope in this modern time as recorded back in the middle age legends that there was a woman who reigned as pope “Pope Joan”.
It happened that she disguised herself to get to the position of a Pope and when the Vatican found she was a woman, she was murdered.
This very idea of hers came about when she made a visit to La Sagrada Familia Cathedral.
The brand has this to say:
“The time for women to have the same right as man to be elected as pope is now. Equality between both sexes is demanded. The femininity and the sexuality of the woman figure will not be seen as a distraction or disability in this area of profession”.
The fabrics and prints used in this collection give each piece a unique and distinct look
