Limes are very versatile and can be used for a whole lot of things. In fact, they possess so many household uses that you may not be aware of. We share some of the household uses of limes below:
Start your day off right
Start your day with a warm glass of water with lime juice. It alkalises the body, fights inflammation, enhances digestion and promotes weight loss. If nothing else, it’s hydrating and loaded with antioxidants and immunity-boosting vitamin C.
Clean your microwave
If your microwave is dirty, you can clean it with limes. You simply need to fill a microwave safe bowl with a half cup of water, two tablespoons of baking soda and half of a lime, then cook on high for about four minutes. Wipe off the muck loosened by the steam, and savour the citrus fresh scent.
Garlic, onions and other ingredients you love in your food can leave hands stinky after cutting. To banish the unsavoury odour, scrub your hands with lime juice post-handling.
Send ants away
Instead of composting your lime peels, use them to create an ant pesticide that will be sure to eradicate ant mounds. If you’re more of a live and let live type, you can also spray the concoction in doorways and windowsills to keep the little buggers from invading your home.
Preserve fresh flowers
Add two teaspoons of lime juice, plus one teaspoon each of bleach and sugar to a vase full of warm water. This DIY concoction will help keep that beautiful bouquet looking active. The bleach kills bacteria, the sugar feeds the flowers and the lime juice acidifies the water.
