Following the decision of the National Judicial Council (NJC) to suspend all judges facing corruption charges pending outcome of investigations, the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has made a call to the President, Muhammadu Buhari, to follow in the steps of the NJC.
The Party’s National Publicity Secretary, Dayo Adeyeye made the call on Friday in Abuja, stating that the Presidency should also suspend the ministers whose names were mentioned in connection with the alleged case of bribery against the seven judicial officers.
According to Mr. Adeyeye, Justices Ngwuta and Okoro had alleged that, they were being witch-hunted for not accepting bribes from the minister for transportation, Rotimi Amechi and his science and technology counterpart, Ogbonnaya Onu.
The allegations of the judges is that, the two persons who tried to entice them with monetary gifts had required them to twist justice in the appeals against the decisions of the lower courts in election petitions in Abia, Akwa-Ibom, Ekiti and Rivers State.
Mr. Adeyeye stated, “In order to allow fair and independent investigation, it is incumbent on president Muhammad Buhari to ask these ministers to step aside pending the conclusion of investigations into the allegations.”
He further stated that, “Anything less would confirm the belief that the administration considered itself as above the law.”
