Multiple award-winning songstress Taylor Swift is about to add another major feather to her cap as the singer is set to receive the honour of Artist of the Decade at the 2019 American Music Awards (AMA).
Swift who holds the record for the most wins by a female performer in the history of the AMAs has also won more AMAs than any other artist over the past 10 years. Michael Jackson currently holds the record for most AMAs with 24 wins while Swift has 23 wins under her belt.
The ‘Lover’ crooner is the only other artist to receive the prestigious award since Garth Brooks was awarded in 2000. In addition to accepting the award, the global superstar will deliver a performance to celebrate the biggest hits of her 13-year career.
Swift has won artist of the year four times and currently has five nominations at this year’s AMA. She is up for Artist of the Year, Favourite Pop/Rock Female Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. Her hit “You Need to Calm Down” is up for Favorite Music Video while her latest album, Lover, is nominated in the Favourite Pop/Rock Album category.
In a statement by Dick Clark Productions’ executive VP programming and development Mark Bacco, he commended the singer’s impact on the music industry. He said:
“Taylor’s impact on music this decade is undeniable and her performances on the American Music Awards have been truly spectacular. “We’re thrilled to honour her as our artist of the decade and can’t wait for her to blow everyone away with an epic, career-spanning performance unlike any other!”
To mark the end of the decade, the 2019 AMAs will celebrate the past 10 years with some of the most memorable moments in music and live performances from big names in the industry.
The 2019 American Music Awards will be broadcast live on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday, Nov. 24.
