Tech billionaire Elon Musk — who’s the co-founder of PayPal, founder of Space X and the CEO of Tesla, Inc.— is showing off his philanthropic side through a huge donation to schools in Michigan.
According to an announcement by the district, all 12 of Flint’s school buildings and administration headquarters will be getting new ultraviolet water filtration systems installed, thanks to a $480,350 donation by Musk and his foundation.
The gift comes after the school board and executive staff came together to brainstorm ways to provide clean water to the students, stemming from the Flint water crisis that dates back to 2014.
“We are deeply grateful for the generosity and the budding partnership between Flint Community Schools, the Musk Foundation and Elon Musk,” said Derrick Lopez, Flint Community Schools Superintendent. “The new water filtration systems will be instrumental in helping our students return to the normalcy of what should be a fundamental right: having access to safe, clean water.”
Way to go Elon Musk!
