It’s been a fascinating 2019 so far in the Nigerian music industry, the usual suspects have taken the back seat and there’s so many first timers topping the charts and getting so much radio spin. The rookies and hitherto unknowns have set the pace with some of the years defining songs. If someone had told you last year that Rema and Fireboy would have the hottest songs in Nigeria right now, I’m sure your reply would have been like ‘who?’Best Nigerian Songs 2019Now, with half of the year gone, it’s time to look back on what has happened in music over the past six months and rank our favorite tracks. Check out Acceleratetv’s best songs of 2019 (so far).

10 Am I A Yahoo Boy by Zlatan ft Naira Marley

Love him or hate him, Naira Marley has been able to build on the momentum of 2018’s ‘Issa Goal’. Whether he’s a yahoo boy or not, his ability to spot trends and create viral songs have had him in pop culture conversation all year long. If you think controversy sells, then you should try getting arrested by the EFCC. Naira Marley teams up with his partner in crime (no pun intended) and delivers one of the years most controversial hit song.

9 Skeleton Move by Master KG

There’s always that song that creeps in from another African country that always makes the chart, whether it’s from Ghana, or from far away Togo or most recently South Africa’s house music. If you’ve been screaming ‘Bode Thomas, Bode Thomas’ then you probably know what I mean. The name of the song is ‘Skeleton Move’ by Master KG in case you’re wondering.

8 Toast by Koffee

Produced by Walshy Fire and Izy Beats, ‘Toast’ is the first single from Koffee’s EP titled ‘Rapture’. This is another jam that was ‘naijafied’ and accepted. Toast was on every radio station you tuned to and every playlist we rocked

7 Dangote Burna Boy

What more can we say about Burna that hasn’t been said, he has continued his stellar 2018 with releasing hits after hit. Produced by his new go-to producer, Kel-P, ‘Dangote’ is the hustler’s anthem you didn’t know you needed.

6 Low by Larry Gaaga ft Wizkid

While we still don’t know what Larry Gaaga does, we have to give up to him for always coming up with fire collaborations. Wizkid hasn’t dropped any major song this year but some he still manages to stay relevant with his features. Produced by Blaq Jerzee, this one crept in slowly but managed to somehow stay on rotation.

5 Daz How Star Do by Skiibii, Falz, Teni, DJ Neptune

If you thought it was a commercial for that popular beer brand, so did we. To be honest Skiibii is really making a comeback from the dead if you ask us. Following his 2018 hit with Reekado, ‘Sensima’, Skiibi enlists some of your favourite stars and delivers a real catchy tune with ‘Daz How Star Do’

4 Nobody Fine Pass You – T Classic

Who is T Classic right? Well, same thing I thought but trust me when I say this is one of the catchiest tunes of 2019. With over 1.5 million views, ‘Nobody Fine Pass You’ is sure definitely going to go down as one of the biggest songs of the year

3 Baby by Joeboy

Shoutout to Mr Eazi and what he’s currently doing for these new guys. If you’ve not seen the viral visualizer video for Joeboy’s then where have you. Joeboy’s years of putting in work via his covers and mash ups have finally paid off.

2 Jealous by Fireboy DML

Late last year, Olamide signed a couple of guys to his YBNL label, one of the guys signed was Fibeboy DML, fast-forward to them making a collabo album and two songs standing out from the ‘YBNL Mafia’ album. One of the song was Fireboy’s single ‘Jealous’. The song was so hot it was re-released this year and rightfully so

1 Dumebi by Rema

Mavin Records may have just found their superstar in Rema. This young kid has taken the music industry by storm with his star-power and uniqueness. While most of his songs tend to lean towards the trap sound, Rema found the winning formula with ‘Dumebi’ and if ‘Dumebi’ is not on your top 5 list by the end of the year, cancel that list.
