The Cover May 2020
The world as we know it will never be the same again.
What’s currently happening has never happened in anybody’s lifetime or is even a memory of anyone living. It is a testament that we, as human beings, can come together and coordinate a global effort to fight an unseen threat.
What’s happening doesn’t care about religion, race or gender. Neither does it respect age or status. This unseen threat is massive and is akin to an enemy that attacks across the board indiscriminately.
That being said, one thing the enemy was not prepared for, was the fact that as human beings we have the ability to put aside our differences and come together to fight with such vigour and gusto.
It hasn’t been easy for a lot of people. A significant number of people have lost their loved ones but there is light at the end of the tunnel. People have been coping with what’s going on in different ways and together as a body of people, we will find that this too shall pass.
For this month’ edition of the cover, we chose to go with a landscape aerial view of an empty Lagos.
Normally, a creative making moves in the industry would have been tapped to star on the cover but defying rules to ensure a shoot occurred, amid these threatening times, was not an option for us. Therefore, in order to convey the severity of the pandemic whilst exploring the depth of the issue, we felt it most appropriate to depict the mark the pandemic has left on us all.
As the world faces the dire consequences of Coronavirus, our cover video is a reminder that in unity, humanity will not only survive, but thrive, with time and that WE WILL GET THROUGH THIS TOGETHER.
In this month’s edition, you’ll read deep reporting in Pa Philip Imevbore’s exploration of life at 90. The retired FAO diplomat who lived for almost 30 years in Italy (the country with one of the highest COVID cases in the world) speaks from his home in Lagos about the unexpected pandemic.
There are expert tips from Dr Adeola Eko, a specialist in Health & Safety consulting which is particularly useful for both customers and business owners looking to reopen, following the ease of the lockdown.
There are also great interviews from an array of musicians; Dr Sid, Cheekychizzy and Pretty Boy DO, who reveal their intimate truths and how they are dealing with the pandemic.
And let’s not forget, Coronavirus survivor, Bukola Olopade, who offers words of encouragement to anyone affected by the disease.
This new iteration of THE COVER is a little different to the norm.
Times have changed and Life As We Know It Will Never Be The Same Again….
