The Europa League has gotten to the semifinal stage, with Sevilla set to face off Manchester United on Sunday, and Inter Milan facing Shaktar Donetsk.
Last night, Sevilla faced their toughest task yet in the Europa League this season, seeing off Wolves with a 1-0 win, which came in the 88th minute, further extending their unbeaten run to 18 matches in all competitions. The loss would really be saddening for Wolves as they had the opportunity to take the lead in the 18th minute from the penalty spot, which Jimenez failed to convert (a very rare scene).
Sevilla dominated possession, and were very well organised defensively, preventing wolves from registering a shot on target for 77 minutes and eventually found a way of breaking down the sturdy Wolves defence.
United would be glad to face a possession based team, as they best rely on their counter attacking prowess, with Martial, Rashford, Greenwood and Fernandes capable of breaking forward and causing serious damage after absorbing pressure.
However, this clash would be the most exciting of the two matches, as whoever wins would likely face Inter Milan in the finals, cause Shaktar should not pose a problem for the Antonio Conte led side.
Inter Milan are considered the most likely victors in their clash, against Shaktar. With their attack being led by Romelu Lukaku who has been in red hot form, setting a new record in the Europa League for scoring in 9 consecutive games. He’s partnered with the Barca sought after player, Lautaro Martinez who has been also impressive.
Ole would be looking to win his first trophy as United’s manager, but would be facing a serious task of beating a side who has won the trophy three times in a row in recent times. Conte on the other hand would be sure his boys should get past Shaktar and the real test would be in the finals, where he would face either a Sevilla or Manchester United.
The final verdict for the champion goes to Manchester United, as they appear to always get the job done even when the odds are against them. With Rashford, Greenwood and Martial being the efficient trio of attackers in the world this season, they would definitely be too kucj for any team to handle easily. The other teams shouldn’t be written off, as we are definitely in for some surprises. Let us know who you think would lift the trophy.
