Journaling is a form of self-expression that can lift and empower people to understand their complex feelings. It helps you clear your head, make important connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and even buffer or reduce the effects of mental illness. It can result in many positive outcomes and improvements to your quality of life. There are many reasons why we journal. From travel journals to gratitude journals we keep specific journals for different aspects of our lives.

1. Improve your writing: It helps you to train your writing. If you want to practice or improve your writing, the best thing to do is to start a journal.  All you need is to start writing your thoughts. The more you write, the more your writing improves.

2.Set & achieve your goals: A journal is a good place to write your goals, ambitions, aspirations and new year resolutions. By keeping them in a diary, you can monitor your progress and continue to focus on the next milestone.

3. Keep your thoughts organized: starting a journal helps us to organize our thoughts and make them apprehensible. You can record daily events, thoughts and feelings about certain experiences or opinions.

4. It allows you to self-reflect: Journaling is a good way to help us to stop, take a step back and reflect on ourselves. We can self-reflect on gratitude or what we did today. Daily reflection can be done at night before bed or early in the morning when you wake up.

Find the right space to write: When you’re writing, it is helpful to be in a space where you can focus and concentrate. A quiet room with no distractions works best.

Buy a physical journal or Download a digital app:  With digital journals, you can also include pictures. Some of the best digital journal apps are Day one, Momento, Journey and Moodnotes 

Close your eyes and reflect on your day: you may not know what to write about and that’s okay. Your journal can be about anything you want. A good way to begin writing is to close your eyes and think about what you’re feeling.

Dive in and start writing: It is easy to begin sentences with, “I feel,” or “I think,” or “I wonder.” Don’t feel pressured to stick to any particular form or topic. The beginning of your writing can just be an introduction to your thoughts at the time. This is your personal space, so you should feel comfortable writing
