“The Lion King” movie has roared past the $1 billion mark making it the fourth Disney movie to do so this year. The movie joins “Avengers: Endgame,” “Captain Marvel” and “Aladdin” as the fourth Disney title to surpass $1 billion in global ticket sales this year.

Director Jon Favreau’s remake of “The Lion King” is already the fifth-biggest global release of the year. The film has earned $361 million at the domestic box office and $638 million overseas. Outside of North America, it had especially strong showings in China with $115 million, along with the United Kingdom with $48 million and Brazil with $44 million.

“Toy Story 4” will soon be the fifth, as it has already grossed $919.1 million during its first five weeks in theaters. In total, Disney has made more than $7.67 billion at the global box office this year, setting a record for the highest-grossing year for a studio ever

So brace yourself guys, these Disney live-action remakes aren’t going anywhere.
