No matter how or what you smoke, it is very dangerous to your health. Some of the effects of smoking include cardiovascular diseases (heart attack), lung cancer, and stroke. Hence, it is important for you to quit in order to escape these life-threatening ailments. Understandably, this is very difficult as some people have been smoking for years. But you have to try. Set a quit date
Serious about quitting smoking? You should choose a quit date and write a “quit date contract” to yourself. Sign it and ensure that your non-smoking friends also sign. Of course, you do not want to disappoint your friends by not quitting on the agreed date.
Stop buying in packs
Since you are getting ready to quit smoking, you should buy one or three sticks instead of buying packs. After you exhaust these sticks, and you crave for more, you will find that you won’t have any immediately available and this will slowly kill your appetite for smoking.
Save the money you spend on buying cigarettes
A pack of cigarette costs N300 in Nigeria. If you are a chain smoker, you should finish between a packet or two a day. Whatever number of packets you smoke daily, save that amount in a jar. When you see the huge amount, it will motivate you to stop.
People who drink alcohol are likely to smoke. Alcohol and Cigar go hand-in-hand. Hence, make efforts to reduce alcohol intake when you first quit.
When your quit date arrives, get rid of everything that reminds of smoking
Throw away everything that reminds you of smoking. Not a single one should be seen around your home.
Rely on friends
When you feel that things are not working as planned, your friends will definitely help to encourage you to quit. Importantly, you need to change your friend circle. Stop hanging out with your pals that smoke.
Try, try, try and try again
The truth is it is very hard to quit a habit that is part of you. Hence, no matter the number of times you have failed, you should not give up. Keep trying.
