Blink. Wink. Eye roll. Stare. Bat your eyelids. Close your eyes. Your eyelashes are always there— on your face. Lashes have the ability to transform looks and every beauty enthusiast knows how important they are. Before you get semi-permanent lash extensions, here are some things you should know.

What are Semi-Permanent Lash Extensions?

For the newbies, lash extensions are lashes attached to your individual natural lashes with adhesive (specially formulated for this purpose) by a professional. These lash extensions, depending on how well you care for them, can last for a month or more. Unlike false lashes, which you have to apply when needed, these lashes appear natural, elevating your bare-face.

What options are available to you?

Lash extensions are categorised in two different ways. The first classification is based on the volume or style of the extensions and the second is based on the material used to make the lashes.

By volume/style

Depending on the salon or beauty organisation, there are different type of volumes and styles available for semi-permanent lash extensions. However, the basic options are classic, volume and hybrid. The classic lash extensions involve one faux lash attached to one natural lash. The fullness of these extensions depend on the number of natural lashes the individual has. One the other hand, volume lash extensions involve multiple synthetic lashes attached to one natural lash. Could be 2-6 faux lashes to one natural lash.

Also, hybrid lash extensions are available. This type combine the classic and volume lash extensions. For instance, a pattern of one classic lash followed by one volume lash.

By material

Moreover, the second classification is based on the type of material used to make the false lashes. The options available include silk, synthetic and mink.

Silk lash extensions are fine and flexible mid-weight extensions. These extensions are natural looking and come in a variety of lengths and curls. If your natural lashes are a bit weak/fine, these are a good option because they are not heavy. Silk extensions last long and are the go-to lash extensions for brides.

Synthetic lash extensions are made from polished acrylic, a synthetic material (well…obviously). These extensions are sturdy, hold a curl and are the most dramatic set of lashes. Synthetic lashes are heavier than silk and mink lashes and have a sorta ‘plastic’ look. So, if you want something dramatic, go for synthetic eyelash extensions but your natural lashes must be healthy enough to handle the weight of them.

Finally, mink lashes are mink fur that can be either real or faux. Faux-mink lashes are cruelty-free and made from PBT (Polybutylene terephthalate). These lash extensions are soft, fine and very similar to natural lashes. They have a bit of shine but can be used for everyday looks.

If you’re still confused, your lash technician can guide you on what look or style works for what you are going for.
