Towards the end of last year, a new movement started in the Nigerian music industry, the “shaku shaku” Movement.
First off, I find it necessary to point out here, that Shaku Shaku is actually a type of dance, not a genre of music as people often think. However, this dance has been attached to a particular sound, which has taken over the Nigerian music industry and even A list artistes in the industry like Davido, Tiwa Savage and D’banj are beginning to take up the sound and dance moves.
There are three street artistes responsible for this sound, but many people mix them up.
Mr Real has 2 albums to his credit
- “A chosen one” 2005,
- “Humility” 2005
He is signed to Grapetree records he is responsible for the hit song and the official shaku shaku anthem “legbegbe”ft obadice, idowest, kelvin Chuks he has also featured on songs with Dbanj, CDQ to mention a few.
Idowest is responsible for the hit single Omo shepeteri featuring Dammy Krane and is signed to Dammy Krane’s record label. He released Hookah Dab in 2016 and 2018 he has released Handkerchief and Dbanjs Issa banger.
Slimcase dropped his oh baby ringtone in 2017 and followed up with the smash hit Oshozondi .popularly known as otunba lamba, which means king of lamba. No wonder all the A list artistes who wants to break into the street run to him to give the lamba on their tracks.
These three are men to watch out for in 2018 to take street music from Nigeria to the world. Their music has been able to cut across both the rich and poor, Porsche and the razz and the mainland and island, as we like to segregate in this part of the world.
I personally feel “legbegbe” is the “Penalty” of 2018 but that is an argument for another day.
